TIPS Co., Ltd. has launched a new automated gate system at its B4 Terminal at Laem Chabang Port, further advancing its transition toward smarter and more efficient terminal operations.
The new system supports the pickup and return of import, export and non-X-rayed containers, helping reduce processing times while improving convenience for truck drivers and enhancing overall container yard efficiency.
Introducing Smart Gate Technology
The automated gate system operates through five smart kiosks, with three installed at the terminal’s entrance gates and two at the exit gates.
Truck drivers can independently complete gate procedures by scanning a QR code and presenting their national ID card or driving license. The system enables container pickup and return procedures to be completed within just a few minutes, reducing manual processes and simplifying access to the terminal.
Integrating Gate and Yard Operations
Once the purpose of entry has been identified, the automated system coordinates with TIPS’ Ship Planning and Yard Controlling Department to assign an appropriate location for containers being returned to the terminal.
For container pickups, the system integrates with the SPARCS N4 terminal operating system to identify the appropriate container location according to the transporter’s requirements, helping improve coordination between gate and yard operations.
Improving Traffic Flow and Efficiency
Following an initial trial, TIPS found that the automated system operated smoothly and effectively. The company also identified opportunities to further improve vehicle flow through the installation of barrier gates at designated stopping points.
The barriers will help manage truck movements and ensure that each stage of the gate process is completed in the correct sequence, supporting smoother traffic flow and more efficient container yard operations.
Expanding Automation Across TIPS Operations
TIPS plans to introduce the automated gate system at its CY2 container yard, helping reduce document-related procedures and further streamline container movements. The company will also continue exploring opportunities to expand automation across additional operational areas and services as part of its ongoing development of smarter, technology-driven terminal operations.
