Global third-party logistics provider CEVA Logistics has completed the international transport of Eiffela Broken Dream, a 29-ton fractured Eiffel Tower sculpture designed by French artist Philippe Maindron, from western France to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada for its debut at Burning Man.
The end-to-end operational scope encompassed road drayage, ocean freight, customs clearance, and specialized project cargo handling for the multi-piece installation.
Sculpture Metrics and Transport Configuration
The structural specifications of the artwork required customized container loading and sequential tracking:
- Dimensions and Mass: Constructed from 29 tons of steel, measuring 30 meters long and 15 meters high, depicting a split Eiffel Tower connected by an aerial tightrope performance cable.
- Containerization: Disassembled into numerous numbered components at the fabrication site in Rochetrejoux, Vendée, and loaded into two open-top containers alongside two supporting equipment containers.
- Routing Schedule: Departed Rochetrejoux by truck on May 6 for the Port of Le Havre, sailed via ocean vessel on May 14, and arrived at the Port of Oakland on June 25.
- Overland Delivery: Transported by road from Oakland to Reno, Nevada, before final staging and delivery into Black Rock City ahead of the August 30 event opening.

Project Cargo and Event Logistics Capabilities
The operation highlights CEVA’s specialized capabilities in time-critical, high-value cultural and project cargo:
- Integrated Services: Managed cross-border import/export customs clearance, port handling, and specialized multimodal transfer to protect component integrity for desert reassembly.
- Track Record in Fine Art Logistics: Complements previous high-profile cultural shipments executed by CEVA and parent company CMA CGM, including the transatlantic transport of a nine-foot bronze Statue of Liberty from France to Washington, D.C.
Executive and Artist Commentary
Philippe Maindron, creator of Eiffela Broken Dream, emphasized that the precise numbering and structural complexity of the artwork made selecting a reliable, end-to-end logistics partner essential for the installation’s successful desert assembly.
Jesús Rogelio Garza, Head of Ground and Rail North America at CEVA Logistics, noted that managing time-sensitive event logistics requires rigorous transatlantic coordination across ocean, rail, and road networks to ensure specialized shipments arrive intact within strict delivery windows.
