ESCO Strengthens Lat Krabang ICD Operations through Flexible Services and Trusted Trucking Partnerships

For ESCO, operating at Lat Krabang ICD is about far more than simply handling containers. Although ESCO has long been recognized as a container terminal operator at Laem Chabang Port, its expertise today extends well beyond terminal operations. In this issue, LM spoke with Mr. Ng Yong Hwee, Chief Operating Officer, and Mr. Thanadon Hemrumpai, Commercial and Business Manager of ESCO, about the growing importance of Lat Krabang ICD, the company’s close collaboration with its trucking partners, and its strategy for supporting customers in an increasingly dynamic logistics environment.

Lat Krabang ICD provides importers, exporters and freight forwarders with greater flexibility by allowing containers to be transported from Bangkok and the surrounding areas to multiple terminals at Laem Chabang Port by both rail and road, well before vessel cut-off times. This not only expands transport options but also helps customers reduce costs while improving supply chain efficiency.

One of Lat Krabang ICD’s greatest advantages is its strategic location. Situated close to Thailand’s major industrial zones and with convenient access to the national highway network, the facility is free from truck time restrictions, allowing cargo to move quickly and efficiently between inland production centers and Laem Chabang Port.

The facility also plays an important role in Thailand’s multimodal transport network. In addition to serving Bangkok and nearby industrial estates, it supports rail services linking Ayutthaya and the Thapra Inland Port in Khon Kaen with Laem Chabang Port, while cross-border road transport extends connectivity to China, Malaysia and Singapore.

ESCO’s ICD facility includes a 72,000 square-meter container yard and a 4,700-square-metre Container Freight Station (CFS), with the capacity to handle approximately 6,700 TEUs per day. Operations are supported by the Computer Automated Terminal Operation System (CATOS), enabling round-the-clock services.

Beyond container handling, ESCO provides a comprehensive One-Stop Service covering full container load (FCL) and less-than-container load (LCL) cargo, temperature-controlled transportation, bonded warehousing, warehouse management, customs clearance and a range of value-added logistics services.

Today, S. Wattana Phanom Construction operates a fleet of more than 300 vehicles, providing the capacity and reliability needed to support ESCO’s container transport requirements. The partnership helps minimize transport delays and bottlenecks while improving service reliability across all routes.

ESCO Go Green

Alongside operational excellence, sustainability has become one of ESCO’s key strategic priorities.

The company began operating a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) reach stacker at Lat Krabang ICD in 2023 and has since expanded its environmental initiatives by introducing electric trucks into its transport operations. ESCO has also participated in electric freight train trials, supporting its long-term vision of enabling low-emission cargo transport throughout the logistics chain.

This commitment was further strengthened this year through the integration of electric trucks into its transport operations in collaboration with S. Wattana Phanom Construction.

These initiatives form part of ESCO’s “ESCO Go Green” programme, which aims to reduce environmental impacts through cleaner technologies, greater energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions across its operations.

In addition to investing in electric equipment and transport solutions, the company is promoting Green Culture among employees while working towards its long-term target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
