Pilot Project Targets 80% Reduction in Emissions for Maritime Supply Runs

Toll Group has launched a pioneering 12-month proof-of-concept (PoC) at its Toll Offshore Petroleum Services (TOPS) facility, establishing the first decarbonization hub in Singapore dedicated to electric supply vessels. Developed in partnership with Yinson GreenTech (YGT), the hub integrates electric marine transport with smart warehousing and digital logistics to create a “blueprint” for sustainable port operations.

The initiative aligns with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and is expected to cut carbon emissions by up to 80% per trip, saving more than one tonne of CO2 for every voyage to the Eastern Anchorages.

Integrating the “Hydromover 2.0” into Local Logistics

The core of the hub’s maritime operation is the Hydromover 2.0, Yinson GreenTech’s next-generation fully electric cargo vessel. The hub’s infrastructure includes:

  • Dedicated Charging Stations: Purpose-built high-speed chargers at the TOPS berth ensure the Hydromover 2.0 remains powered for rapid turnarounds.
  • Smart Warehousing: A 320,000-square-meter integrated base that coordinates with electric trucks to ensure a seamless flow of ship spares and offshore supplies.
  • Real-Time Digital Orchestration: A unified platform tracks vessel movements, battery levels, and cargo status to optimize delivery schedules and minimize idle time.

Located at 25 Loyang Crescent, the hub is strategically positioned near Changi Airport, enabling rapid air-sea connectivity for critical spare parts and equipment needed by vessels anchored in Singapore’s eastern waters.

A Data-Driven Blueprint for Asia

Jonathon Kottegoda-Breden, President of Asia Logistics at Toll Group, emphasized that the project is designed to generate real-world data to help regulators and industry stakeholders transition away from fossil fuels. “We are showing how sustainable solutions can deliver both operational efficiency and significant emissions reductions,” added Rajeev Sood, Executive Vice President of Energy, Marine & Renewables.

The 12-month pilot will serve as a live laboratory, analyzing energy consumption profiles to help right-size future green port infrastructure. By replacing traditional diesel bunker runs with battery-powered alternatives, Toll Group is setting a new standard for the “last-mile” of maritime supply chains across the Asia-Pacific region.
