Educational Site Visit to Laem Chabang Port Bridges Academic Theory and Maritime Practice
A delegation of students from Surindra Rajabhat University visited TIPS Co., Ltd. at Laem Chabang Port’s Berth B4 last week to observe world-class port management and container terminal operations. The visit, conducted on 14 January 2026, serves as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the link between Thailand’s educational sector and the maritime logistics industry.
The students were welcomed by a leadership team from TIPS, including Ms. Wasana Yupapin (Assistant Customer Relations Division Manager), Mr. Nattapol Boonyasena (Assistant Operations Division Manager – Ship Planning), and Ms. Orpin Premthammakul (Senior Equipment and Container Freight Station Supervisor).
Immersive Learning at Berth B4
The program was designed to provide a 360-degree view of terminal logistics, moving from theoretical overviews to real-time observation:
- Corporate Briefing: Students viewed a comprehensive video presentation outlining the strategic role of Laem Chabang Port and the specific management procedures that have made TIPS a leading private operator in Thailand.
- Operational Control: The highlight of the visit was a tour of the Vessel Operations Control Room. Here, students observed the high-tech ship planning and container tracking systems in action, gaining insight into how the terminal manages its impressive vessel productivity—which recently peaked at over 120 moves per hour.
- Facility Tour: The group also explored the Container Freight Station (CFS) and yard operations, learning about the precision required for handling laden and empty containers 24/7.
Strengthening the Maritime Talent Pipeline
This site visit underscores the commitment of TIPS Co., Ltd. to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and professional development. By opening its facilities to university students, TIPS provides a vital platform for future logistics professionals to see the complexity of international trade hubs firsthand.
Berth B4, a joint venture involving major shipping lines such as MOL, NYK Line, and the Ngow Hock Group, remains at the forefront of Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard industrial development. Educational tours like this ensure that the next generation of graduates is well-prepared for the technical demands of the global supply chain.
