MEDLOG CMLOG Major Cold Storage Expansion China Coastline

MEDLOG, the logistics arm of the MSC Group, and China Master Logistics (CMLOG) have announced the launch of a significant new joint venture featuring a network of five cold stores across Shanghai, Tianjin, and Ningbo. This expansion, officially inaugurated on 11 March 2026, marks the largest installation to date within the growing partnership between the two logistics leaders.

The centerpiece of this expansion is a massive new facility located in the Lingang Special Comprehensive Free Trade Zone in Shanghai, strategically positioned to capture the rising demand for cross-border refrigerated imports.

High-Tech Infrastructure for Perishable Trade

The new Lingang facility is a powerhouse of “intelligent refrigeration,” designed to handle the complex requirements of China’s primary import segments, particularly frozen meat, seafood, and dairy.

Facility Capabilities:

  • Storage Capacity: Approximately 80,000 tonnes, featuring both bonded and non-bonded storage areas to provide maximum flexibility for international traders.
  • Smart Warehousing: Integration of automated warehouse management systems (WMS) and advanced control technologies to ensure standardized, high-efficiency operations.
  • Diverse Product Range: Tailored handling for frozen proteins, fresh fruit, and other temperature-sensitive consumer food items.

End-to-End “Port-to-Plate” Solutions

As a member of the MSC Group, MEDLOG leverages its close relationship with MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company to offer a seamless, vertically integrated supply chain.

  • Maritime Integration: Direct links between MSC’s global reefer fleet and the new coastal cold stores.
  • Inland Logistics: Comprehensive support for customs clearance and temperature-controlled trucking for domestic distribution.
  • Reduced Lead Times: By housing high volumes of cargo within the Free Trade Zone, importers can reduce the time between ship arrival and final delivery to the Chinese consumer market.

Strengthening Shanghai as a Global Food Hub

The launch of these facilities reinforces Shanghai’s position as a critical node in the global cold chain. By improving supply chain reliability and compliance for fresh produce, the MEDLOG-CMLOG partnership supports the Chinese government’s broader goals for food security and the modernization of the country’s logistics sector.

Diego Aponte, President of MSC Group, previously emphasized the importance of “nodal excellence”—a strategy clearly reflected in this latest investment, which ensures that the quality of perishable goods is maintained from the point of origin all the way to the end consumer.
