DP World €50 Million Expansion Chemicals Battery Logistics Hub Wolfenbüttel

Global supply chain provider DP World has broken ground on a €50 million expansion of its specialized chemical logistics hub in Wolfenbüttel, Germany.

The investment adds a 30,000-square-meter lithium-ion battery storage warehouse and a new hazardous goods rail terminal, transforming the site into DP World’s European flagship chemical and automotive logistics facility.

Infrastructure Features and Operational Scope

The expansion expands the hub’s capabilities to serve the growing electric vehicle (EV) battery and chemical sectors across Europe:

  • Dedicated Battery Storage: Constructs a purpose-built 30,000-square-meter warehouse engineered specifically for the safe handling and storage of lithium-ion batteries.
  • Specialized Rail Terminal: Establishes the region’s first dedicated rail terminal certified for hazardous goods transport, shifting freight volumes from road to rail across European trade corridors.
  • Industry Capabilities: Expands logistics support beyond existing agricultural chemical clients to serve European automotive manufacturers and tier-one battery suppliers.
  • Job Creation: Projected to generate up to 80 local jobs upon completion.

European Network Strategy

The Wolfenbüttel facility forms part of DP World’s chemical logistics network across the continent:

  • Network Integration: Joins 19 chemical storage facilities operated by DP World in Europe, which currently provide next-day fulfillment services across Germany.
  • EV Supply Chain Expansion: Strengthens DP World’s broader network of specialized lithium-ion storage sites supporting Europe’s automotive energy transition.

Executive Perspective

Luca Schulz, Director of Chemicals for Central Europe at DP World, stated that the €50 million investment highlights DP World’s commitment to chemical and automotive logistics in Europe while expanding multimodal supply chain capabilities for global industrial customers.
