DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, is intensifying its support for Indonesia’s ambition to become a key player in global trade, offering comprehensive end-to-end logistics solutions tailored to local businesses and multinational enterprises. Under its Strategy 2030 – Accelerate Sustainable Growth, DHL is targeting high-potential sectors such as new energy, life sciences and healthcare, and e-commerce, while aligning closely with Indonesia’s net-zero goals.

According to the DHL Trade Atlas 2025, Indonesia is poised to rank among the top 30 countries for trade growth over the next five years, driven by rapid digitalization and strategic infrastructure investments. However, the evolving global trade environment, marked by geopolitical tensions and shifting supply chains, demands logistics partners capable of managing complex challenges. DHL, with its three operating divisions – DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, and DHL Supply Chain – is well positioned to provide seamless logistics support through a global network and local expertise.

Expanding Opportunities Beyond Greater Jakarta

“Indonesia’s potential as a trade hub is still underappreciated,” said Ahmad Mohamad, Senior Technical Advisor, DHL Express Indonesia. “The country’s large domestic market, skilled workforce, and government-led initiatives like the National Logistics Ecosystem provide a strong foundation for growth. Cities such as Surabaya, Semarang, Batam, and Bali are emerging as viable alternatives for businesses diversifying their supply chains. We also aim to help Indonesian brands reach international markets, particularly through e-commerce.”

DHL currently employs over 4,000 people in Indonesia and operates 180 facilities nationwide, supporting a wide spectrum of industries through integrated services. The company is leveraging Indonesia’s strategic location and participation in trade agreements like the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to connect local businesses with global markets.

Powering the New Energy Sector

Indonesia’s ambition to become one of the world’s top three electric vehicle (EV) battery producers by 2027 is a significant growth opportunity for DHL. “We are seeing rapid investments from EV manufacturers and suppliers looking for safe, compliant, and efficient logistics solutions,” said Matthias Gehrsitz, Managing Director, DHL Supply Chain Indonesia.

DHL offers end-to-end EV supply chain services, including multimodal transportation, specialized warehousing with battery testing and charging, and advanced aftermarket solutions. A dedicated team of EV logistics experts ensures that safety and compliance standards are met across the supply chain.

Strengthening Life Sciences and Healthcare Logistics

Indonesia’s life sciences and healthcare sector, valued at US$11 billion in 2025, is undergoing a transformation as the country aims to reduce reliance on imports. “We are investing in specialized cold-chain solutions to meet these evolving needs,” said Nicholas Bongsosartono, President Director, DHL Global Forwarding Indonesia.

DHL’s infrastructure includes a Life Science and Healthcare Competency Centre in Jakarta with temperature-controlled storage facilities, as well as DHL Medical Express, which ensures secure and compliant transport of pharmaceuticals and biotech products. In Asia Pacific, DHL Group recently announced a €500 million investment in its life sciences and healthcare infrastructure under the DHL Health Logistics brand, consolidating its expertise into a seamless, end-to-end service offering.

Advancing Sustainable Logistics

DHL’s sustainability initiatives are closely aligned with Indonesia’s decarbonization roadmap. The company is deploying electric vehicles (EVs) for last-mile deliveries, piloting electric vans for urban logistics, and offering Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through its GoGreen Plus program to reduce emissions by up to 80%. DHL Supply Chain Indonesia operates solar-powered, carbon-neutral warehouses and has introduced eco-friendly measures such as rainwater harvesting and reusable packaging.

“From electric mobility to renewable energy solutions, DHL is committed to helping Indonesia achieve its net-zero ambitions,” Gehrsitz added.

With its extensive global reach, sector expertise, and sustainability focus, DHL is positioning itself as a key partner for Indonesia’s future growth, supporting both domestic expansion and international trade.
