CMA CGM has announced a significant upgrade to its Eagle Express 1 (EX1) service, adding multiple direct port calls in Japan to provide faster and more reliable access to the United States West Coast. This U.S.-flagged service is designed to strengthen supply chain resilience between the two nations, offering market-leading transit times for Japanese exporters.
The enhanced weekly service is scheduled to commence its first sailing from the Port of Kobe on 5 May 2026, utilizing a dedicated fleet of seven 5,600 TEU vessels.
Industry-Leading Transit Times to Los Angeles
By optimizing the network design and increasing direct calls, CMA CGM is offering day-definite arrivals for cargo originating from Japan’s primary industrial hubs. Shippers can now expect their goods to reach Los Angeles in record time:
- From Yokohama: 12 days
- From Nagoya: 14 days
- From Kobe: 16 days
The Enhanced EX1 Rotation:
Qingdao – Busan – Kobe – Nagoya – Yokohama – Los Angeles – Oakland – Yokohama – Naha – Busan – Qingdao

This rotation not only benefits importers in the U.S. but also ensures stable export capacity for American goods heading to Japan and North Asia.
Integrated Logistics and On-Dock Rail Connectivity
A standout feature of the enhanced EX1 service is the seamless integration with U.S. inland infrastructure. Through CMA CGM’s strategic presence at the FMS terminal in Los Angeles, shippers gain access to on-dock rail facilities.
This enables predictable, day-definite delivery to key Midwest and Southern U.S. markets, bypassing the typical delays associated with truck drayage and off-site intermodal transfers. When combined with the logistics expertise of CEVA Logistics, CMA CGM’s logistics arm, the group provides a truly end-to-end “factory-to-door” solution.
A Strategic Commitment to the Japanese Market
CMA CGM has been a mainstay in Japan since 2007 and currently operates 14 services across 13 Japanese ports. The upgrade to the EX1 service underscores the group’s long-term investment in the country’s maritime infrastructure, including its strategic presence at the Honmoku D5 terminal in Yokohama.
Bo Wegener, CEO of CMA CGM Asia Pacific, emphasized that providing timely and effective solutions is the group’s top priority: “The enhancements to our Eagle Express 1 service not only improve Asia-U.S. connectivity but also demonstrate our strong commitment to reliability and service excellence.”
