GEODIS has launched a new, high-stakes logistics phase to support the French industrial group MND in the development of the Chimgan Four-Season Resort. Located in the Tchatkal mountains northeast of Tashkent, the project aims to transform the region into one of Central Asia’s leading leisure hubs.
Having already successfully managed 92 shipments over the past year—including four exceptional heavy-lift convoys—GEODIS is now deploying a tailored multimodal solution to navigate significant geopolitical constraints in the region.
Bypassing Traditional Corridors: The Middle Silk Road
Due to current geopolitical restrictions that exclude transit through Russia or Iran, GEODIS engineers have designed an innovative “Southern Corridor” to ensure the safe delivery of MND’s specialized mountain infrastructure.
The Multi-Stage Logistics Flow:
- European Consolidation: Equipment, including gondolas, chairlifts, ziplines, and an “alpine coaster,” is collected from multiple manufacturing sites across Europe.
- Maritime Transit: Cargo is transported via tautliner semi-trailers to the Mediterranean ports of Sète (France) and Trieste (Italy).
- The Caspian Crossing: From the Mediterranean, shipments travel by sea through Turkey and across the Caspian Sea to reach Uzbekistan.
- Mountain Delivery: The final leg involves complex road transport into the heart of the Tchatkal mountain range.
The average journey duration for this complex route is estimated between 30 and 45 days, requiring seamless coordination to avoid transshipment delays at international borders.
Infrastructure for a Four-Season Destination
The equipment provided by MND is critical to the strategic vision of the Chimgan resort. The shipments commencing this month include:
- Cable Mobility: High-capacity gondolas and chairlifts for winter skiing and summer sightseeing.
- Thrill Leisure: Long-distance ziplines and an alpine coaster designed for year-round tourism.
- Snowmaking & Safety: Advanced systems to ensure consistent slope quality and mountain safety infrastructure.
Marc Vollet, Executive Vice-President of European Road Network activities at GEODIS, noted that this project perfectly illustrates the company’s expertise in “building tailor-made supply chains where traditional routes are no longer available.”
Strategic Importance for Central Asia
The Chimgan project is more than just a ski resort; it is a cornerstone of Uzbekistan’s strategy to diversify its economy through high-value international tourism. By securing the flow of these specialized industrial components, GEODIS and MND are laying the groundwork for a destination that is expected to attract visitors from across the globe, significantly boosting the regional economy.
