Rhenus Asia-Pacific Cross-Border Road Freight Infrastructure

Global logistics provider Rhenus Group has announced a strategic expansion of its road freight operations across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Capitalizing on its established European overland logistics network, the company is scaling its cross-border trucking operations throughout Southeast Asia and deepening connectivity along key corridors linking Greater China with ASEAN markets.

The expansion focuses on integrating land-based transport with air and ocean freight services, while scaling local distribution, regional sourcing networks, and free trade zone warehousing capabilities.

Infrastructure Investment at the Malaysia-Thailand Border

To accelerate cross-border cargo clearance, Rhenus is placing direct investments into localized border infrastructure and regulatory teams. This includes the recent establishment of its dedicated Bukit Kayu Hitam Border Office in Malaysia. Equipped with full, in-house customs brokerage capabilities, this specialized facility is positioned to streamline customs compliance, minimize transit delays, and optimize cargo flow along the critical land transport corridor between Malaysia and Thailand.

Prem Anand Anandaverl, Regional Director of Cross Border Trucking Asia for Rhenus Logistics, noted that road freight is playing an increasingly important role in building resilient regional supply chains. He emphasized that the company’s objective is to provide seamless connectivity to the global network, helping commercial shippers move goods across diverse Asian jurisdictions efficiently and compliantly.

The global freight trucking market is projected to be valued at 2.74 trillion USD in 2025 and is on track to reach 3.70 trillion USD by 2032, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.9%. The Asia-Pacific region remains a primary driver of this growth, supported by rising industrial manufacturing output, a massive consumer market, and substantial regional investments in highway and logistics hub infrastructure.

Multi-Modal Integration and Environmental Tracking

By scaling its APAC land transport footprint, Rhenus connects its regional operations to its broader global network, which includes more than 150 owned and partner road freight locations across 15 European countries.

This expanded overland infrastructure links directly with existing rail corridors connecting Greater China and Europe, providing supply chain managers with flexible multi-modal alternatives to traditional sea and air routes. To support long-term supply chain resilience, Rhenus is also deploying updated transport management systems, establishing multilingual local compliance teams, and collaborating with transport partners to improve carbon dioxide emission tracking and test alternative fuel options for regional fleets.
