PSA International Strategic Terminal Logistics Investment Xiamen Port

Global port operator PSA International (PSA) has successfully secured a major equity investment in the Xiamen Container Terminal Group (XCTG) through an official public bidding process. XCTG manages an extensive maritime infrastructure footprint comprising eight container terminals with a combined annual design capacity of approximately 20 million TEUs. The completion of the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and relevant regulatory approvals.

As a core component of this strategic acquisition, PSA will simultaneously increase its capital investment in the Xiamen Port Intermodal Logistics Hub (XPLH). This dual-investment framework is designed to deepen the physical and digital integration of Fujian Province’s seaport infrastructure, land-based supply chains, and multi-modal transit networks.

Reinforcing a Strategic Hub Along China’s Southeast Coast

The transaction marks a significant expansion of PSA’s long-term commercial commitment to the Chinese market. It systematically reinforces its strategic presence within the Fujian maritime corridor, where the group already maintains long-standing terminal investments across both Xiamen and Fuzhou.

Fujian’s geographic position along China’s southeast coast makes it an essential conduit for expanding global trade flows, particularly between mainland manufacturing centers and emerging markets across the Global South. The expanded terminal footprint will provide international shippers with streamlined access to inland Chinese import, distribution, and manufacturing supply chain networks.

Driving the Node-to-Network Strategy

Ong Kim Pong, Group CEO of PSA International, stated that the company is honored to deepen its partnership in Fujian through investments in XCTG and XPLH. He noted that alongside PSA’s existing operations in Fuzhou, Fujian is envisioned as a strategic global hub capable of serving customers through a comprehensive logistics ecosystem. He added that the venture will build supply chain resilience and deliver extensive customer value for sustainable trade as part of PSA’s broader Node-to-Network strategy.

Cai Li Qun, Chairman of Xiamen Port Group, emphasized that the partnership reflects a strong alignment between the two organizations in supporting regional maritime strategies and elevating Fujian’s position in international shipping. He highlighted that combining Xiamen’s regional infrastructure with PSA’s global port network will enhance the province’s overall industrial competitiveness.

Alignment with Regional Silk Road Maritime Frameworks

The collaborative venture aligns closely with the ongoing advancement of the Fujian Silk Road Maritime Strategy and PSA’s corporate focus on port ecosystem excellence. This strategy focuses on moving beyond traditional port-to-port maritime operations by tighter integration of deepwater berths with inland rail terminals, intermodal transport corridors, and advanced digital logistics capabilities.
