On 13 June, Ranong Port, under the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), and Chittagong Port of Bangladesh held a workshop under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) framework to discuss the topic ‘Ranong Port’s Potential as Thailand’s Andaman Trade Gateway’ at the Heritage Grand Convention Hotel. The event aimed to promote trade and investment while enhancing competitive opportunities for Thailand, BIMSTEC and ASEAN countries.

The event was honored by the presence of Ranong Governor Supoj Phutikiatkajorn. Mr. Kriangkrai Chaisiriwongsuk, Director of the Port Authority of Thailand, delivered a keynote speech on ‘Ranong Port’s Potential as Thailand’s Andaman Trade Gateway’ and participated in a panel discussion on Ranong Trade Town. The discussion highlighted business matching activities under the Economic Value Creation Initiative, designed to connect Thai trade with BIMSTEC and ASEAN markets for the 2025 fiscal year. Participants included entrepreneurs from BIMSTEC and ASEAN countries, coastal trade businesses, international freight forwarders, and maritime shipping lines.

Mr. Kriangkrai stated, “This collaboration between Ranong Port and Chittagong Port began with the MOU signed on 20 December 2021. It aims to drive commercial routes between the two ports, benefiting the logistics sector, port management, information technology operations, communication, coastal transportation businesses, and port-related industries. This workshop serves as a continuation and supplement to the MOU.”

This partnership is also marked as an important step toward increasing cargo shipping to BIMSTEC and ASEAN countries through Ranong Port. Stakeholders are confident that this proactive approach and continued development will enhance Ranong Port’s capacity to support the growth of maritime shipping, positioning it as Thailand’s gateway and a regional logistics hub.
