Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Nippon Express), a core company of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC., has launched a new ocean freight consolidation service connecting Japan with Central and Eastern Europe. The Vienna Consolidation service, developed in collaboration with fellow group company cargo-partner, aims to meet growing demand for LCL shipments to inland European destinations through a cross-dock hub in Vienna.

The new service leverages cargo-partner’s extensive logistics infrastructure in Austria and neighboring countries, offering reliable access to 26 final delivery points across the region, including Vienna, Graz, Linz, Innsbruck, Zagreb, Prague, and Budapest.

The service addresses a clear gap in the market: while demand for exports from Japan to Central and Eastern Europe continues to grow, shippers have faced limited consolidation options with competitive transit times and cost efficiency. By utilizing the FP1 shipping route—providing direct sailings from Japan to Northern Europe—and establishing Vienna as the primary container freight station (CFS), NX Group is now offering a highly integrated solution from origin to destination.

After containerized cargo arrives in Northern Europe, it is transported overland to the Vienna CFS, where devanning and regional distribution are managed by NX Group and cargo-partner facilities. All CFS operations at both origin and destination are performed by in-network teams, allowing for better quality control and streamlined handling.

Key features of the Vienna Consolidation service include:

  • Broad geographic coverage: The service offers distribution from Vienna to a wide range of cities across Central and Eastern Europe, supported by cargo-partner’s dense trucking and terminal network.
  • Controlled service quality: NX Group manages all CFS activities in Japan and Europe, ensuring a high standard of handling, cargo security, and schedule reliability.
  • Competitive pricing: Shippers can achieve 20–30% cost savings on average compared to traditional LCL services, driven by optimized routing and economies of scale.

With this latest initiative, NX Group continues to expand its global ocean freight offerings by combining Nippon Express’s Japan-origin forwarding strength with cargo-partner’s well-established European distribution capabilities. The service is positioned as a scalable solution for manufacturers and exporters looking to move goods efficiently to inland European markets without the cost and complexity of air freight or full-container shipments.
