Intra-Asia carrier China United Lines (CULines) has announced the launch of its new Straits-Bengal Shuttle (SBS) service, designed to link Port Klang, Malaysia, directly with the Port of Kolkata, India.

Commencing operations in October 2026, the shortsea service utilizes Port Klang as a central transshipment hub to route cargoes across CULines’ broader regional and long-haul networks.

Strategic Transshipment Routing and Regional Coverage

The shuttle service expands feeder interconnections for inbound and outbound trade lanes serving Eastern India:

  • Eastbound Network Ingestion: Provides direct transshipment connections through Port Klang for cargo originating from manufacturing and trade hubs across China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.
  • Westbound Feeder Links: Offers connecting services for export cargo out of Kolkata via Port Klang, enabling feeder access to CULines’ long-haul loops serving the Middle East and the Red Sea.
  • Supply Chain Flexibility: Strengthens regional network integration and expands routing choices for shippers trading between South Asia and Southeast Asia.
