MSC Transatlantic Connectivity Direct Bilbao Call

Following the strategic expansion of its NWC-USA-SAWC service in late 2025, MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) has successfully integrated a direct call at Bilbao, Spain. The move provides exporters in Northern Spain and the surrounding hinterland with a unique, non-stop connection to major markets across the Caribbean, Central America, and the West Coast of South America.

The enhanced service is designed to bypass common delays at major transshipment hubs, offering high reliability for sectors such as plywood, food and beverages, and raw materials. By removing the need for intermediary stops before reaching Latin American gateways, the route ensures a more stable supply chain for time-sensitive cargo.

Competitive Transit Times to Key Latin American Hubs

The upgraded rotation officially commenced with the call of the MSC Carole (voyage 550A) at Bilbao on 20 December 2025. Since the implementation of this direct link, MSC has established some of the most competitive transit times currently available in the market for Northern Spanish cargo:

  • Caucedo, Dominican Republic: 16 days
  • Cartagena, Colombia: 19 days
  • Cristobal, Panama: 21 days
  • Callao, Peru: 26 days
  • San Antonio, Chile: 30 days
  • Valparaiso, Chile: 33 days

These transit times provide a significant advantage for Spanish businesses targeting the Pacific coast of South America, facilitating more efficient trade relations with the Andean region.

Full Service Rotation and Integrated Solutions

The NWC-USA-SAWC service now follows a comprehensive rotation that links the North West Continent and Northern Spain to the southern hemisphere:

London – Rotterdam – Antwerp – Bilbao – Las Palmas – Caucedo – Cartagena – Cristobal – Rodman – Callao – San Antonio – Coronel – Valparaiso

In addition to the maritime connection, MSC offers a full suite of integrated logistics services in the Bilbao region. This includes inland transport solutions, customs clearance, and container stuffing, providing a complete end-to-end solution for shippers.

This network upgrade reaffirms MSC’s commitment to strengthening the trade bridge between Spain and Latin America, utilizing Bilbao as a primary gateway for the country’s northern industrial sectors.
