Maersk has launched a new weekly FI2 ocean service connecting Far East Asia with the Indian Subcontinent, expanding capacity between China and Northwest India in response to growing customer demand.
The first westbound sailing departed Shanghai on 4 June 2026, providing a direct connection between key manufacturing and sourcing centres in China and major gateways serving India and Pakistan.
Expanding Weekly Capacity
The FI2 service is operated with six vessels, each with a nominal capacity of 4,500 TEUs.
The port rotation is:
Shanghai – Ningbo – Nansha – Tanjung Pelepas – Nhava Sheva – Pipavav – Port Qasim
According to Maersk, the new service is designed to provide additional capacity, improved schedule reliability and greater frequency for customers in sectors including automotive, chemicals, technology and retail.
Connecting Pipavav with Inland Markets
A key feature of the FI2 service is its call at Pipavav in Gujarat, providing access to India’s Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) rail network.
Through the DFC, cargo arriving at Pipavav can be transported inland to the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, Gurugram and Noida, as well as surrounding industrial areas.
By combining ocean transport with inland rail connectivity, Maersk aims to provide more integrated logistics solutions while improving transit reliability for high-value and time-sensitive cargo.
Strengthening Maersk’s Far East-India Network
The FI2 service complements Maersk’s existing FI3 service, giving customers two direct Far East-India ocean services.
Together, the services provide increased frequency, additional routing options and greater flexibility for customers moving cargo between China and the Indian Subcontinent.
Maersk said the expanded network is intended to help customers improve supply chain planning and resilience while supporting growing trade flows between the two regions.
