Konecranes has secured an order for eight hybrid Noell NSC 644 EHY straddle carriers from Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG for deployment at the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort in Hamburg.

The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the machines expected to enter service by the end of 2026.

Supporting Lower Emissions in Port Operations

The hybrid straddle carriers will be used for container transport between quay and yard areas, stacking operations, and landside truck and rail handling. They will replace older diesel-powered machines currently performing similar tasks at the terminal.

Each unit combines a diesel generator with an onboard battery system, enabling reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions compared with conventional diesel-driven equipment. The machines are also equipped with a powerlift system that elevates the driver to the cabin.

Designed for Future Power Options

The straddle carriers are based on Konecranes’ latest modular design platform, which allows operators to adapt the drive system as technology evolves. The configuration enables potential upgrades to alternative power solutions, including fully battery-electric or hydrogen-powered systems.

HHLA currently operates Konecranes equipment across several terminals at the Port of Hamburg, and the latest order continues the long-standing cooperation between the two companies.

The equipment also forms part of Konecranes’ broader Ecolifting programme, which focuses on reducing emissions in port operations through hybrid, electric and alternative-fuel equipment solutions.
