In a milestone moment for sustainable shipping, Wallenius Wilhelmsen has formally recognised Volvo Cars and Polestar for their significant reductions in CO₂ emissions through the use of its reduced carbon shipping service powered by biofuel.
Working closely with both automotive brands, Wallenius Wilhelmsen has supported their journey to decarbonise global supply chains by replacing conventional fuels with biofuel alternatives. The results speak volumes: in 2024 alone, Polestar achieved a reduction of 6,554 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e), while Volvo Cars saved 19,510 tonnes of CO₂e.
To mark these achievements, certificates were recently presented to both companies, with Wallenius Wilhelmsen CEO Mr. Lasse Kristoffersen personally handing over the certificate to Polestar CEO Mr. Michael Lohscheller at the company’s headquarters in Gothenburg.
Powering Progress Through Collaboration
“Getting our customers to join us on the path to net-zero is essential,” said Mr. Pierre-Eric Papoz, Senior Manager Auto Accounts at Wallenius Wilhelmsen. “We deeply appreciate the commitment shown by Volvo Cars and Polestar to reducing emissions in their supply chains and look forward to continued collaboration as we push the boundaries of sustainable logistics.”
The partnership reflects Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s broader strategy of engaging automotive leaders in the shift toward cleaner maritime operations. By offering a reduced carbon shipping service using advanced biofuels, the company enables its clients to make immediate climate gains without compromising efficiency or delivery times.
As pressure mounts across industries to meet global sustainability goals, this joint achievement underscores the power of partnerships in accelerating meaningful environmental progress across global logistics networks.
