Pacific International Lines (PIL) marked a significant milestone on July 6 with the inaugural call of its vessel, the Kota Santos, at the new Dongwon Global Terminal (DGT) in Busan New Port. The DGT, which opened in April, is the largest and first fully automated container terminal in South Korea.
The inaugural visit formalizes a new partnership that is set to enhance efficiency and productivity for PIL’s operations in the region.

Leveraging Technology for Faster Turnaround
The Dongwon Global Terminal is designed to set new standards for cargo handling by leveraging advanced technology, including automated guided vehicles and remote-controlled ship-to-shore cranes. This automation is expected to ensure a faster turnaround of vessels, leading to enhanced schedule reliability and shorter transit times for customers.
The Kota Santos, which is deployed on PIL’s West Coast Central and South America Service 6 (WS6) route, was welcomed at a ceremony attended by members of PIL’s local team. The occasion was commemorated with an exchange of gifts between PIL and the terminal operator.
The new call at DGT aligns with PIL’s commitment to improving its services for customers and reinforces its focus on integrating innovative solutions into its global operations.
