NX Singapore Major Expansion Tuas Global Logistics Centre

Strategic Growth Supports Johor-Singapore Economic Special Zone (JS-SEZ) and Next-Gen Tuas Port

Nippon Express (Singapore), a subsidiary of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, has finalized a significant expansion of its Tuas Global Logistics Centre. The project, which officially concluded with a ceremony in late November, adds approximately 9,200 square meters of high-tech warehouse space to meet surging demand in Singapore’s western industrial heartland.

The expansion brings the facility’s total warehouse area to over 40,000 square meters. Positioned at the western tip of Singapore, the centre is ideally located to capitalize on the development of the Tuas Mega Port—set to be the world’s largest automated container terminal by 2040—and the newly established Johor-Singapore Economic Special Zone (JS-SEZ).

High-Tech Infrastructure for Specialized Sectors

The newly expanded space is designed with a flexible layout to handle fluctuations in global trade and features specialized environments for high-value industries. Key technical specifications include:

  • Temperature-Controlled Zones: Specialized storage environments suitable for medical and healthcare products, semiconductors, and precision equipment.
  • Automation & Safety: Integration of AI-powered safety technology to detect floor hazards and the deployment of advanced storage systems, including AutoStore and four-way shuttle racking.
  • Multimodal Connectivity: The facility provides CFS (Container Freight Station) functions for ocean freight and serves as a vital node for cross-border trucking between Singapore and Malaysia.

Ryuichi Murakami, President of NX Singapore, emphasized that this investment is focused on providing a more robust and agile supply chain. The facility complements the group’s existing presence in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, creating a seamless regional distribution network.

Commitment to Green Logistics

In alignment with Singapore’s sustainability goals, the expansion incorporates significant environmental upgrades. NX Singapore has installed a new solar photovoltaic system on the facility, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 771 metric tons annually. Furthermore, the company has transitioned its internal fleet from diesel to electric forklifts to minimize the hub’s environmental footprint.

The completion ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Ishikawa and EDB Chairman Png Cheong Boon, signaling the strategic importance of this facility to the regional trade ecosystem. As the JS-SEZ continues to mature, the Tuas Global Logistics Centre is positioned to serve as a primary gateway for companies looking to integrate their Singapore and Malaysia operations.
