DP World and Kent Foods, a leading European supplier of foodstuffs, have signed a new deal exceeding £20 million to establish a new storage facility at London Gateway Logistics Park. This 10-year lease agreement sees Kent Foods, part of The Albex Group, occupying a 150,000 sq. ft warehouse, marking another significant growth milestone for DP World’s UK operations. Kent Foods took occupation on February 27.
State-of-the-Art Facility and Strategic Location
The warehouse, whose construction was completed last year, has been fitted with temperature-controlled freezer units to accommodate a diverse range of goods, including chocolate, sugar, and cooking oils. Demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability, the facility has achieved both a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and an EPC ‘A’ rating.
The new storage facility is strategically located within Thames Freeport, a special economic zone designed to boost trade and investment. This prime location offers Kent Foods direct access to London and the Southeast consumer market, along with financial incentives such as employer National Insurance savings and capital allowances on investments, making it an attractive hub for businesses.
Leadership Perspectives
Alan Holland, Chief Executive Officer of London Gateway Logistics Park, expressed delight in welcoming Kent Foods, highlighting their ability to leverage the full financial benefits of Thames Freeport and London Gateway’s extensive rail and road links. He emphasized the park’s growing strength as customers increasingly choose DP World’s well-connected Thames Estuary site for their supply chain and UK-wide commercial operations.
Maciej Szczygiel, Managing Director for the South East Region at Albex Logistics, stated that Kent Foods is excited about their new logistics center at London Gateway Logistics Park, which will be managed by Albex Logistics South East. He noted that the industry-leading, port-centric facilities will enable Kent Foods to enhance service to UK food manufacturers by reducing “port-to-production” timelines for imported raw materials and accelerating the export of finished foodstuffs globally.
Michael Dalglish, Albex Group Operations Director, added that this facility is a major contribution to Kent Foods’ and Albex Logistics’ focus on delivering innovative, sustainable, and efficient solutions for the food industry.
Global real estate advisor Avison Young represented Kent Foods throughout the acquisition. DP World’s end-to-end solutions, including its hubs at Southampton and London Gateway, logistics, forwarding, and European transport capabilities, are seamlessly integrated into its global network, which operates in 78 countries and handles 10% of global containerized trade.
