GEODIS 40 Years Volvo Electric Truck Australia

GEODIS has taken delivery of its second electric truck from Volvo Trucks Australia, reinforcing a four-decade partnership rooted in sustainable transport innovation. The announcement was made during the Brisbane Truck Show, where executives from both companies gathered to celebrate the shared commitment to decarbonising supply chains across the Pacific region.

The vehicle, a Volvo FE electric truck, will be used to support Volvo’s component supply operations in Queensland, transporting truck parts and sub-assemblies from Brisbane Airport to the Volvo Wacol production facility. It follows the successful deployment of the first unit in 2023, which has been operating between GEODIS’ Matraville NSW hub and Volvo’s parts distribution centre in Minto, southwest of Sydney.

Fitted with advanced battery technology and supported by solar-powered charging infrastructure, the new truck represents another step in GEODIS’ strategy to transition its metropolitan delivery fleet to low-impact vehicles. The truck offers over 200 kilometres of range and a payload capacity of up to 10,000 kilograms, positioning it as a viable alternative to diesel trucks in urban logistics.

“This delivery is another milestone in a partnership that goes beyond logistics,” said Mr. Stuart Asplet, Cluster Managing Director – Pacific, Korea, Japan, at GEODIS. “Together with Volvo, we’re not only fulfilling transport needs but accelerating the transformation to more sustainable practices in Australia and globally. Electric trucks like the FE are central to our long-term carbon reduction goals and help make supply chains more resilient and future-ready.”

Volvo Group Australia echoed the sentiment. Mr. Tim Camilleri, Director of Electromobility Solutions, highlighted the industry’s growing shift toward greener operations: “More than 80 Volvo electric trucks are now operating on Australian roads, showing clear momentum. Our partnership with GEODIS is helping to bring this technology into everyday supply chain use cases, proving it can be scaled and commercially viable.”

The Volvo FE’s emissions profile supports GEODIS’ broader climate strategy, which includes a goal to reduce direct emissions from transport operations by 40% by 2030. With the introduction of these electric vehicles, the company expects to eliminate nitrogen oxide and fine particulate emissions from its Australian urban fleet and achieve a 95% reduction in CO₂ output compared to traditional diesel vehicles.

GEODIS is also integrating environmental goals across its global operations, including energy upgrades at its logistics sites and digital optimisation tools for route planning and loading efficiency. The company aims for 90% of all site energy consumption to come from low-carbon sources by the end of the decade.

The delivery in Brisbane was attended by executives from both companies and dignitaries, including Mr. Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, and His Excellency Pontus Melander, Swedish Ambassador to Australia.
