DHL Supply Chain 20-Year Partnership Airbus

Renewal Targets Enhanced Visibility and Sustainability Across Global Aerospace Flows

DHL Supply Chain has officially renewed its long-term contract with Airbus, continuing its role as the lead transport partner (LTP) for the aircraft manufacturer’s global commercial operations. The partnership, which began in 2008, covers the orchestration of air, sea, road, and parcel transport across a network of approximately 20 production sites worldwide.

As part of the agreement, DHL will continue to handle roughly 350,000 shipments annually. These operations are managed through two primary centers of expertise in Toulouse, France, and Valencia, Spain, which act as control towers for inbound, inter-factory, and outbound logistics flows.

Critical Operations and Digital Transformation

The partnership is anchored by a dedicated 24/7 service for Aircraft on Ground (AOG) operations, ensuring that critical parts are delivered with maximum speed to minimize aircraft downtime. To support Airbus’ growth and the increasing complexity of aerospace logistics, DHL is implementing several digital and operational upgrades:

  • Advanced TMS Integration: The deployment of a new transport management system designed to optimize routing and improve load factors.
  • Full-Spectrum Management: DHL oversees carrier contracts, lead transport tenders, quality control, and claims management on behalf of Airbus.
  • End-to-End Visibility: The Control Tower model provides real-time tracking of components moving between factories in Europe, the United States, and China.

Commitment to Resilient and Green Logistics

Sustainability is a central pillar of the renewed contract. By utilizing advanced planning tools, DHL aims to significantly reduce transport-related carbon emissions through route optimization and better asset utilization. Rainer Haag, CEO Europe at DHL Supply Chain, emphasized that the collaboration is focused on building a “resilient, intelligent, and sustainable supply chain” that can adapt to rapid technological changes in the aviation sector.

Nico Schuetz, CEO of DHL Supply Chain France, added that the renewal is a testament to nearly two decades of mutual trust and a shared vision for operational excellence. Through this partnership, Airbus continues to benefit from the full mobilization of DHL Group’s expertise to shorten order fulfillment times and enhance supply chain transparency.
