deugro 15500 Metric Tons Subsea Cables Abu Dhabi Project

deugro has successfully delivered 700 kilometers of subsea cables, totaling 15,500 metric tons, to a cable-laying vessel in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The complex operation, executed by a collaborative team from deugro Korea, Japan, and the UAE, was a critical component of a large-scale HVDC submarine cable electrification project.

The client, Samsung C&T (SCT), required timely delivery to keep cable-laying operations on schedule and minimize overall project costs.

Overcoming Complex Logistics Challenges

To ensure the on-time delivery, deugro provided an all-in-one logistics solution that included chartering specialized heavy lift vessels, such as the UHL Falcon and UHL Force, capable of accommodating the large static tanks and cable amounts. A key challenge arose from a short-notice requirement to record acceleration data during the sea voyage. deugro’s team responded by quickly sourcing and installing a motion monitoring system to meet the consignee’s demands.

The cables were loaded from ports in Japan and Norway, with intricate spooling operations ensuring safe transport. Upon arrival in Abu Dhabi, the cables were precisely transloaded from the transport vessels to the installation vessel, the MV Isaac Newton, for the final leg of the operation.

According to Jong-Yub Han, Sales and Business Development Manager Operations at deugro Korea, the project’s success was a result of precise preparation, proactive communication, and close collaboration with the client, carriers, and all partners.
