COSCO SHIPPING International Automotive Transshipment Service Chancay Port

COSCO SHIPPING has officially launched an international automotive transshipment service at Chancay Port in Peru. This launch was marked by the successful loading of the first batch of 279 vehicles onto the vessel M.V. MIN JIANG KOU.

New Logistics Corridor and Port Operations

The operation served as the maiden voyage for the “Tianjin Port-Chancay Port” international ro-ro shipping route, establishing a new, premium logistics corridor. This corridor is designed to give automakers from China’s Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region efficient access to South American markets.

The roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel M.V. MIN JIANG KOU, operated by COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, docked on July 31. Utilizing the port’s intelligent dispatch system, the 279 vehicles were loaded efficiently before undergoing professional lashing and securing procedures for transshipment to various destinations along South America’s western coast.

Chancay Port’s Strategic Role and Future

Located in Peru’s Lima Region, Chancay Port is a strategic hub situated at the heart of South America’s Pacific coastline. It functions as a vital gateway to the Pacific for Latin America. COSCO SHIPPING is leveraging this hub, along with its vehicle carrier fleet, to create a high-efficiency logistics network serving key markets on the western coast of South America, including Peru, Chile, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Furthermore, through strategic partnerships with local logistics providers, COSCO SHIPPING has established a door-to-door logistics service solution, providing customers with more cost-effective and efficient trade channel options.

Looking ahead, Chancay Port plans to accelerate its smart port transformation through digital upgrades. It intends to implement cutting-edge technologies, such as digital cranes and intelligent cargo systems, to become a benchmark modern port in the South Pacific region. This modernization effort will provide critical infrastructure to enhance cooperation between China and Latin American countries in building industrial capacity.
