CEVA Logistics Vehicle Hub Port of Tarragona €9 Million Investment

CEVA Logistics has announced a strategic €9 million investment to expand and modernize its Finished Vehicle Logistics (FVL) facilities at the Port of Tarragona. The project, centered in the La Laboral area, adds 94,000 square metres of operational space, reinforcing CEVA’s position as a dominant force in the Mediterranean automotive logistics sector.

The expansion allows for an additional 4,500 vehicles to be staged on-site, bringing CEVA’s total regional capacity to 32,500 spaces across more than 65 hectares.

Modernized Infrastructure for Automotive Excellence

The investment goes beyond simple land acquisition, focusing on the high-tech processing and protection required by modern automakers.

Key Facility Upgrades:

  • Weather Protection: The new 94,000 sqm area is fully equipped with anti-hail netting, safeguarding high-value inventory from extreme weather events.
  • Advanced Workshops: Refurbished and expanded paint booths and a new automated car wash tunnel ensure vehicles are in showroom condition before distribution.
  • Process Optimization: Upgraded equipment and improved storage layouts enable higher operational volumes while maintaining strict safety and speed standards.

A Strategic Mediterranean Gateway

The Tarragona site is uniquely positioned to serve as a multimodal hub, combining maritime, rail, and road connectivity. This “all-in-one” approach allows CEVA to manage the entire lifecycle of a vehicle from the moment it arrives at the port to its final delivery at a dealership.

Core Assets of the Tarragona Hub:

  • Port Proximity: Immediate access to the Port of Tarragona allows for efficient loading and unloading of Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC).
  • Rail Connectivity: Integrated rail links facilitate sustainable, long-distance transport to inland European markets.
  • On-Site Technical Services: Workshops provide pre-delivery inspections (PDI), minor repairs, and customizations, reducing the need for secondary transport.

Supporting Growth in the Spanish Market

Eric Dessupoiu, VP for Finished Vehicle Logistics at CEVA Logistics, emphasized that this expansion is a direct response to the growing demand from global automakers using Spain as a key export and import gateway. “With our expanded storage area, on-site workshops, and distribution capabilities, we have the assets needed to support our growth—and that of our customers—in this strategic market,” he stated.

This move aligns with CEVA’s broader European strategy to provide resilient, high-capacity infrastructure that can handle the shifting volumes of both traditional and electric vehicle (EV) fleets.
