PSA BDP, a prominent provider of global logistics and supply chain solutions, has announced its formal commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking a significant step in the company’s journey toward ambitious emissions reduction targets. The SBTi is an influential organization guiding businesses in their quest to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The logistics giant plans to establish both near-term and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets in accordance with the SBTi’s net-zero standards. With over 98% of PSA BDP’s emissions originating from freight transportation, this initiative is expected to support customers in achieving their own sustainability targets. The process will start with an external audit aligned with the ISO standard for GHG accounting, emphasizing PSA BDP’s dedication to environmental accountability and rigorous GHG reporting practices.
Once the audit is completed, PSA BDP aims to set its existing Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets through the SBTi methodology. Following the successful approval of these targets, the company will submit new Scope 3 targets, with a goal of implementation by the end of 2025. These targets will feature near-term goals aimed at 2030 or 2035, as well as long-term ambitions that target net zero emissions by 2050. This structured approach underlines PSA BDP’s commitment to sustainable growth, global carbon reduction, and advancing a circular economy.
For PSA BDP, reducing emissions equates to helping customers minimize their freight movement emissions, whether by land, sea, or air. This effort is central to PSA BDP’s Freight Decarbonisation Framework, which begins with improved data collection through its recently launched Carbon Dashboard tool, enabling customers to address their transportation emissions in line with science-based targets. In tandem with solutions-oriented logistics services, the implementation of lower-carbon freight options will be instrumental in PSA BDP’s pursuit of net zero emissions in the coming years.
Peggy Murphy, VP of Sustainability at PSA BDP, stated, “At PSA BDP, we are fully committed to leading the supply chain industry towards a low-carbon future and are working proactively to reduce emissions across key areas. We recognize the urgency of taking action to further our sustainability goals and empower our customers to achieve their emissions reduction objectives.”
The SBTi’s net zero standard represents the only framework in the world for corporate net-zero target setting aligned with climate science. Targets are considered ‘science-based’ when they conform to the latest climate science outlining the essential measures to meet the Paris Agreement’s goals, particularly the aim to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
