On July 24th, Wallem Shipping (Thailand), Thailand’s leading global maritime transportation services provider and a subsidiary of the Wallem Group, acted as Thailand’s official agent for the Genting Dream cruise ship. The ship, which is 335 meters long, weighs 150,695 tons and has 20 floors, arrived at the Phuket Deep Sea Port. Mr Supoj Mongkonlsirikiat, Advisor at Wallem Shipping (Thailand), along with representatives from Phuket’s government officials, welcomed more than 3,700 tourists from the cruise ship and provided them with souvenirs, food, and drinks at the port’s yard area—this gesture aimed to enhance reliability and stimulate Phuket’s travel economy.

Genting Dream provides travel services between Singapore and Phuket. Its arrival at Phuket Deep Sea Port marked the first arrival of a ship of its size at the port in 2024. Mr Nachapong Pranit, Director of the Marine Department of Phuket, mentioned that the number of cruise ships arriving at the port has significantly increased following the conclusion of the COVID-19 pandemic, with large cruise ships arriving 7-8 times per month, compared to 3 times or about 14-17 times per month since January. This is seen as a positive trend that enhances safety reliability for large cruise ship travel, especially for the Genting Dream, which recently arrived at Phuket Deep Sea Port for the first time.

Mr Mongkonlsirikiat noted that this marked the first successful arrival of a 335-meter-long ship at Phuket Deep Sea Port. Wallem Shipping coordinated with the Marine Department to ensure the ship’s navigation was conducted without operational errors. This involved sending four expert officers to attend a simulation in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, led by Mr. Phuriphat Theerakulpisut, Deputy Director-General of the Marine Department, and other experienced navigation officers. This achievement bodes well for the future, as Genting Dream is scheduled to arrive at Phuket twice a month until 2026.
