Liebherr has delivered an LHM 550 mobile harbour crane to Indonesia’s newly constructed deep-sea terminal, Patimban Global Gateway Terminal (PGT).
Delivered within a three-month timeframe, the crane establishes early container handling capability as the facility phases in permanent quay equipment.
Operational Consortium and Strategic Role
Located east of Jakarta near West Java’s primary manufacturing corridor, the Patimban port development was conceived as a national strategic project to relieve cargo congestion at Tanjung Priok and support Indonesia’s automotive export market.
- Operating Consortium: PGT is operated by a joint venture comprising Africa Global Logistics (MSC Group), Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Samudera Group.
- Staged Expansion: The terminal’s master plan targets multi-million TEU annual capacity, with phased equipment arrivals extending through 2026 and beyond.
Crane Specifications and Operational Flexibility
Configured specifically for container handling, the LHM 550 provides immediate operational capability while berth layouts and permanent ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes are fully integrated:
- Reach and Performance: Features an outreach of up to 54 meters, supporting container handling across a broad range of vessel classes.
- Operational Adaptability: Offers mobile maneuvering along the quay to adjust workflows as terminal operations expand, handling both domestic container flows and general cargo.
- Service and Warranty Support: The delivery package includes early operator familiarization, commissioning assistance, an extended warranty, and ongoing technical support through Liebherr’s local service network.
