Logistics service provider Rhenus and bicycle tire manufacturer Schwalbe have extended their contract for an additional five years.
As part of the expanded agreement, the Rhenus logistics center in Wesel, Germany will handle Schwalbe’s entire after-sales goods volume, consolidating storage and fulfillment operations under one roof.
Expanded Warehouse Scope and Infrastructure Modifications
Over the past two and a half years, the Wesel facility managed Schwalbe’s high-tech tires in standard carton packaging. The new contract expands the site’s operational scope to include raw and packaged bale goods.
Key site modifications and operational details include:
- Racking System Overhaul: Rhenus reconfigured its internal racking architecture and integrated modern fire protection technologies designed specifically for high-density tire and bale storage.
- Comprehensive After-Sales Logistics: Consolidates the complete European after-sales inventory to streamline regional order preparation and distribution.
Sustainable Transport and Site Infrastructure
Henning Brands, Branch Manager at Rhenus Warehousing Wesel, and Peer Ole Kuck, Head of Logistics at Schwalbe, noted that tailored warehouse flexibility and efficient transport routes were central to extending the agreement.
The Wesel site leverages several sustainable operational features:
- Direct Routing: Short transport links to and from the Port of Rotterdam using electric drayage trucks.
- Facility Energy Systems: Powered by an on-site photovoltaic solar array and geothermal energy systems.
