PIL Shipping Malaysia recently showcased its robust project cargo handling capabilities by successfully coordinating the transshipment of two significant special cargoes, underscoring its ability to manage large and complex shipments.
Handling Metro Train Coach for Alstom
The first complex shipment involved a metro train coach manufactured by French company Alstom. The massive cargo was initially loaded onto the Kota Makmur in Chennai, India, and subsequently transshipped at Port Klang, Malaysia. There, the PIL Malaysian team meticulously organized its safe discharge. For its onward journey to Perth, Australia, the team arranged for the train coach to be secured on a base using six 40-foot flat racks aboard the Kota Lambai, fastened with self-tensioning ratchet lashing belts.
Managing Cargo Bucket for Caterpillar Inc.
The second notable shipment was a cargo bucket from American construction and engineering equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar Inc. This large item was loaded onto the Kota Layang in Chennai, India. It was separated into two pieces for transshipment at Port Klang, destined for Sydney, Australia. During this process, the PIL Shipping Malaysia team arranged for the equipment pieces to be loaded onto a base of seven 40-foot flat racks on the connecting vessel, Kota Lambai, and securely fastened using self-tensioning ratchet lashing belts.
Collaborative Efforts and Future Outlook
To ensure the safe handling of both cargoes, the Port Klang team maintained close communication with terminal operator Westports Malaysia and other relevant stakeholders, meticulously planning the discharge and loading operations. The local operations team was also on-site to oversee the entire process.
These successful cases demonstrate PIL’s strong capability in serving customers with special cargo requirements. By continually “Pushing Boundaries,” PIL aims to take on larger and more complicated shipments, thereby providing increased value to its customers.
