DP World Bicester Warehouse 10 Million Vinyl Records

DP World’s Bicester facility, the United Kingdom’s largest distribution warehouse for music and video products, has shipped over 10 million vinyl records since its opening in August 2023. This milestone underscores the significant role the warehouse plays in the ongoing “vinyl revival” within the UK’s physical music sector.

Operational Efficiency and Market Dominance

The 270,000 sq. ft facility, powered by over 80 semi-autonomous ‘picking’ robots developed by Locus Robotics, has become a central hub for physical music distribution in the UK. These robots work independently alongside human input, ensuring a seamless blend of automation and manual precision for highly efficient and scalable operations.

In its first year, the Bicester warehouse distributed more than 20 million units across all product lines. It handles over 70% of all physical music and 35% of home entertainment products sold in the UK, supplying major retailers like Amazon and HMV, as well as over 400 independent record stores. Additionally, the facility saw significant growth in e-commerce, distributing approximately 2 million units directly to customers in 2024.

Industry Endorsements and Future Growth

Neil Lander, Business Development Director, EMEA – DP World Logistics, celebrated the 10-millionth vinyl record shipment as a testament to the team’s efforts in supporting the revival of Britain’s physical music and home entertainment sector. He expressed excitement for continued support, especially leading up to Record Store Day on April 12.

Christopher Crellin, CFO of Sony Music UK, praised DP World’s “industry-leading” state-of-the-art facilities for their crucial role in supporting physical formats as an integral part of artists’ careers, which strengthens the overall music ecosystem. David Sharpe, COO at Universal Music UK, commended DP World for developing an “incredibly impressive facility in record time” with “near-perfect service levels,” recognizing their work as a driving force behind the UK’s vinyl resurgence.

With vinyl sales continuing to grow year-on-year, DP World’s Bicester warehouse is a key component of Britain’s physical music supply chain. Since opening in August 2023, it has distributed 10.5 million records, 13 million CDs, and 8 million DVDs, with further growth anticipated across all product types in 2025.

DP World’s end-to-end solutions, which include logistics, forwarding, and European transport capabilities, are seamlessly integrated into their global network. Operating in 78 countries, DP World handles 10% of global containerized trade, driving supply chain efficiency worldwide.
