Pacific International Lines (PIL) has announced the launch of its new Imara Express (IMX) service, establishing a dedicated weekly connection between major West Indian ports and primary gateways in East Africa.
The service is scheduled to make its maiden departure from Nhava Sheva on September 23, 2026.
Service Structure and Port Rotation
Named after the Swahili word “Imara”—meaning strong, dependable, and resilient—the loop expands PIL’s broader Asia-Africa network to meet growing bilateral trade demand.
- Port Rotation: Nhava Sheva – Mundra – Dar Es Salaam – Mombasa – Nhava Sheva.
- Service Frequency: Fixed weekly sailings providing direct connections between Indian manufacturing hubs and East African consumer markets.
- Operational Goal: Designed to deliver competitive transit times and schedule reliability to support supply chain resilience across the Indian Ocean trade lane.
Strategic Trade Impact
William Ho, General Manager of Long-Haul Services at PIL, noted that the IMX loop builds upon PIL’s long-standing presence in the Asia-Africa trade.
By providing direct port calls at Tanzania’s Dar Es Salaam and Kenya’s Mombasa, the service offers shippers greater network coverage, routing flexibility, and market access across regional trade corridors.
