Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has officially expanded its regional liner network with the introduction of the Southeast Asia–Indian Subcontinent Service 2 (SIS2). Commencing on June 4, 2026, the newly established maritime loop serves as an extension of the carrier’s specialized trade portfolio connecting industrial manufacturing centers in Southern China and Vietnam directly with key gateways on the West Coast of India.

The loop introduction provides commercial shippers with enhanced scheduling options and more reliable container slot allocations to navigate fluctuating intra-Asia trade volumes.

Establishing a Direct Trade Pipeline Between Haiphong and West India

A primary strategic driver behind the launch of the SIS2 service is the creation of an efficient, direct ocean connection linking northern Vietnam’s primary industrial gateway of Haiphong with India’s dominant western commercial ports.

The fixed weekly service maintains a comprehensive multi-country port rotation:

SIS2 Service Port Rotation: Qinzhou – Yangpu – Haiphong – Singapore – Mundra – Singapore – Hong Kong – Qinzhou

By anchoring the route across major regional transshipment hubs, the loop establishes a multi-layered logistics corridor:

  • Direct Vietnam-to-India Transit: Cuts down total transit times and eliminates the need for intermediate mid-voyage transshipment handling for cargo moving out of Haiphong into Mundra.
  • Enhanced China-Vietnam Integration: Integrates specialized southern Chinese coastal hubs like Qinzhou and Yangpu directly with Vietnam’s export manufacturing zones.
  • Singapore Relay Connectivity: Leverages Singapore’s high-capacity terminal infrastructure to facilitate seamless cargo relays into secondary South Asian, Middle Eastern, and European long-haul networks.

Supporting Multi-Regional Industrial Supply Chains

The specific inclusion of Mundra provides a high-efficiency entry point into India’s vast northern and western economic hinterlands. This pipeline is tailored to support the raw material and component requirements of diverse industrial sectors, including automotive assembly, electronics manufacturing, chemicals, and textiles.

OOCL management noted that the launch of the SIS2 service directly addresses growing customer demand for greater supply chain agility across the Asian continent. By improving connectivity between China, Vietnam, Singapore, and India, the line gives international logistics managers the operational reliability and route diversification required to manage complex, multi-tiered manufacturing networks.
