MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced a strategic partnership with Savan Logistics to provide services at Savannakhet and Thanaleng dry ports in Laos. This partnership aims to streamline empty container pickup and drop-off processes, benefiting Northern and Southern Laos customers.

This collaboration will effectively address the issue of empty container hauling that has posed challenges for many customers in Laos. Previously, importing goods to destinations in Laos via Laem Chabang incurred unnecessary costs of returning the empty containers to Laem Chabang after delivering the cargo. Likewise, exporters from Laos faced the inconvenience of picking up empty containers at Laem Chabang, loading them in Laos, and returning them to Laem Chabang for export purposes.

In response to this supply chain inefficiency, MSC introduced two new pickup and drop-off locations in partnership with Savan Logistics. These locations include the Savannakhet Dry Port, near the Mukdahan–Savannakhet border, and the Thanaleng Dry Port, near the Nong Khai-Vientiane border. These additions will enable import-export customers in Laos to achieve substantial cost savings in the transportation of empty containers by eliminating the need for redundant trips to Laem Chabang Port.

This strategic partnership underscores MSC’s dedication to delivering comprehensive solutions for its customers’ transportation and logistics requirements. This service will particularly prove advantageous for export customers in Laos, specifically those engaged in the export of mining products, clothing, electronic components, furniture, copper, and wires, as well as for customers importing a diverse range of products, including agricultural items, animal feed, malt, and mining equipment.
