Maersk CATL Global Strategic Partnership Supply Chain Electrification

Logistics Giant and Battery Technology Leader Deepen Collaboration to Decarbonise Global Trade and Enhance CATL’s Logistics

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk), the integrated logistics company, and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), a global leader in new energy innovative technologies, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to jointly advance decarbonisation across global supply chains and further strengthen CATL’s international logistics capabilities.

The MoU signing ceremony took place in Hong Kong on October 9. The partnership builds upon an existing five-year collaboration spanning ocean transportation and intermodal solutions.

End-to-End Logistics for CATL’s Global Growth

Under the new strategic agreement, Maersk will serve as CATL’s preferred global logistics partner. This relationship will see Maersk delivering a full suite of integrated services, including:

  • Ocean and Air Freight
  • Project Logistics
  • Warehousing

The companies will collaborate on developing effective, scalable models to maintain supply chain resilience for CATL in the rapidly evolving global landscape. These joint efforts are intended to drive operational excellence across CATL’s supply chains and directly support its international expansion ambitions.

Accelerating the Transition to Green Logistics

A major focus of the partnership is the electrification of key nodes across the supply chain, leveraging CATL’s advanced battery technologies. The joint initiatives will explore the electrification of:

  • Container Shipping
  • Port Ecosystems
  • Inland Transportation
  • Warehousing

These initiatives will be supported by electric system design, energy management, and end-of-life battery recycling solutions. Conversely, CATL will be recognised as a preferred battery technology partner to support Maersk’s own ambitious decarbonisation roadmap.

Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Energy Transition at Maersk, stated, “This partnership presents a powerful opportunity to accelerate the decarbonisation of global logistics – not only for Maersk, but also for our customers and the broader industry.”

Both companies are committed to ambitious sustainability goals: Maersk is aiming for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, while CATL plans to achieve carbon neutrality in its core operations by 2025 and across its entire battery supply chain by 2035.

Libin Tan, Chief Customer Officer, Co-President of Sales & Marketing of CATL, highlighted the shared goal: “Both parties aim to deepen collaboration in shipping, end-to-end supply chain, digitalisation, and new energy applications, working together to accelerate decarbonisation in the global logistics industry.”
