Interasia Lines One Million TEU Milestone

Historical Volume Achievement Marks Growth for Intra-Asia Specialist

Interasia Lines reached a historic operational peak at the close of 2025, handling its one millionth TEU export container of the year. The landmark 20-foot container arrived at the Huangpu Old Port Terminal in Guangzhou on 23 December 2025, marking the first time the carrier has crossed the seven-figure volume threshold in its nearly 60-year history.

The millionth container was shipped from Cat Lai Port in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, underscoring the vital trade link between Southeast Asia and China that has driven the company’s recent expansion.

Fleet Expansion Fuels Record Growth

The achievement follows a sustained period of aggressive fleet development. Since 2024, Interasia has added six new containerships to its fleet, including the Interasia Tenacity and Interasia Tactic, which significantly increased the carrier’s capacity and schedule flexibility.

To maintain this momentum into 2026 and beyond, the company finalized a contract in August 2025 with Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding for an additional six 2,900 TEU newbuilds (with options for two more). These vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2028, are engineered for high efficiency and sustainability, aligning with the industry’s shift toward greener maritime logistics.

New Routes for 2026

Building on the million-TEU foundation, Interasia is launching new services this month to further densify its regional network. Notable expansions include:

  • Korea-China-Indonesia (KCI) Service: Commencing in mid-January 2026, this new loop provides Interasia’s first direct connection between Indonesia, Korea, and China.
  • Strengthened Vietnam–India Links: The carrier continues to optimize its VTI (Vietnam Thailand India) service, linking Cat Lai and Laem Chabang to the major Indian gateways of Nhava Sheva and Mundra.

Lan Yongnong, General Manager of Huangpu Port, hosted the milestone ceremony, emphasizing that Interasia’s growth is a direct reflection of its “Move ahead” brand spirit. With a current fleet of over 25 vessels and 37 distinct services, the carrier is now positioned as a top-30 global liner operator, focusing exclusively on the world’s most dynamic intra-regional trade lanes.
