Hainan Harbor & Shipping International Port Co., Ltd. (YPICT) and PSA Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance port connectivity and supply chain solutions. The partnership aims to strengthen trade links and logistics resilience between Hainan, a key part of broader China, and ASEAN countries.
The signing was a high-profile event attended by Hainan Province Governor Mr. LIU Xiaoming, COSCO SHIPPING Chairman Mr. WAN Min, and PSA International Group CEO Mr. ONG Kim Pong, underscoring the strategic importance of the collaboration.
Enhancing Trade Corridors and Port Efficiency
The MOU establishes a framework for joint operational initiatives, including the launch of more direct shipping routes between the Port of Yangpu and the Port of Singapore. Both parties will also work to enhance the operational efficiency of these routes, with the goal of optimizing cargo flow.
As the operator of the Yangpu International Container Terminal, Hainan Harbor & Shipping is focused on developing Yangpu into a “two-way dual-hub international port,” serving as a key hub for both China’s domestic north-south shipping routes and east-west routes from Southeast Asia to North America. The recent completion of new berths at the port has already increased its handling capacity and service level.
A Strategic Milestone for Hainan Free Trade Port
This partnership is considered a significant milestone for the Hainan Free Trade Port. The collaboration with PSA Singapore, which operates the world’s largest transshipment hub, is expected to deepen international shipping cooperation and align with the port’s broader goals for global supply chain competitiveness. The alliance will not only promote the internationalization of the Port of Yangpu but also contribute to the long-term trade and economic growth of Hainan Island.
