DP World has introduced a fully integrated logistics and market-entry solution designed to overcome key barriers faced by global automakers in sub-Saharan Africa. The new hybrid model, combining contract logistics with tailored expansion services, was piloted with Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Foton Motor and is now positioned as a blueprint for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) seeking to enter one of the world’s fastest-growing vehicle markets.
Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to see vehicle demand rise by 28.5% by 2030, driven by rapid urbanisation, higher incomes, and increased intra-African trade. However, the region still accounts for only around 1% of global vehicle sales due to challenges such as fragmented logistics infrastructure, complex regulations, and unreliable parts distribution.
DP World’s solution addresses these issues with nationwide distribution to dealerships within 24–48 hours, a digital dealer portal offering SKU-level inventory visibility, real-time tracking, automated ordering, and integrated payment systems. By leveraging this platform, Foton Motor has rapidly established its aftermarket operations in South Africa, including warehousing, distribution, regulatory compliance, and dealer enablement.
“The demand for vehicles is booming in Africa, but the difficulty is ensuring vehicles and parts can reach where they are needed, when needed,” said David D’Annunzio, Global Vice President and Vertical Lead, Automotive at DP World. “Our turnkey solution will change the game for OEMs, removing the traditional friction points and allowing them to scale their operations.”
Mr. Fu Jun, President of Foton International at Foton Motor Group, praised the partnership: “DP World’s support has made our market entry efficient and straightforward, enabling us to focus on serving customers and building our brand in South Africa.”
The new model gives OEMs a first-mover advantage in a market often dominated by informal players and grey imports, ensuring reliable service networks, better aftermarket support, and reduced risk of counterfeit parts. DP World plans to expand this offering to additional OEMs across the region as demand for both passenger and commercial vehicles continues to grow.
