Officials from the Sultanate of Oman and DP World have reviewed progress on the development of the Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone and confirmed the roadmap for the project’s first phase.
The meeting brought together His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), and His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World, along with senior officials from both organisations at the Authority’s headquarters in Muscat.
Discussions focused on key milestones achieved to date and the next steps for implementing Phase 1 of the project.
Phase One Development Plans
The initial phase of the development will cover approximately 14 square kilometres allocated to the developer. Under the approved master plan, the zone has been designed with the potential to expand to around 24 square kilometres in a second phase as investor demand grows.
The development agreement for the Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone was signed on 26 May 2025.
Strategic Location Supporting Regional Trade
Located in the Al Rawdah District of Mahdah Wilayat in Al Buraimi Governorate, the zone sits along key regional trade corridors connecting Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
The site offers access to Oman’s main road network and lies close to major logistics gateways, including Sohar Port and Jebel Ali Port. The location places the zone approximately 85 kilometres from Al Buraimi and around 125 kilometres from Sohar.
Supporting Industrial and Logistics Investment
The Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone is expected to attract investment in sectors including logistics, light manufacturing and industrial services.
Officials said the project will support job creation, knowledge transfer and the diversification objectives outlined under Oman Vision 2040.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination to ensure the timely delivery of the project and the successful implementation of subsequent development phases.
