DP World has officially commenced operations at its first dedicated contract logistics warehouse in Türkiye. Located in Balçık, in the industrially significant Kocaeli Province, the 20,000 m² facility is a cornerstone of DP World’s ambition to expand its regional capacity to 150,000 m² across Eastern Europe by 2028.
This strategic expansion integrates DP World’s port and terminal strengths with landside logistics, providing a seamless “factory-to-door” solution for the Turkish market.
Strategic Hub for Regional Connectivity
The Balçık warehouse is positioned at the heart of the North-Western Turkish trade corridor, offering unparalleled access to Istanbul, the Gulf of İzmit, and major industrial zones.
Operational Highlights:
- Infrastructure: The facility features 26 loading ramps and is optimized for high-density storage and rapid throughput.
- Vertical Expertise: Designed to support specialized sectors including automotive, technology, chemicals, healthcare, and retail.
- Nodal Synergy: Its proximity to DP World’s Körfez and Yarımca terminals—the largest port complex in East Marmara—ensures that sea-to-shore transitions are faster and more predictable.
Digital and Sustainable Operations
DP World has deployed a team of 70 logistics professionals to manage the site, utilizing a fully integrated technology stack to ensure transparency across the supply chain.
- System Integration: The on-site Warehouse Management System (WMS) is directly linked to DP World’s Terminal Operating Systems (TOS). This real-time connection allows for precise tracking from the moment a container is offloaded at the port to its final outbound delivery from the warehouse.
- Green Logistics: Sustainability is baked into the daily operations. The facility utilizes energy-efficient handling equipment powered exclusively by lithium-ion batteries, reducing the carbon intensity of indoor logistics.
A Growing Footprint in Eastern Europe
The opening of the Balçık facility is more than just a local milestone; it is a signal of DP World’s broader regional strategy. Jacques Hartman, COO for Contract Logistics in Europe, emphasized that Türkiye is central to this growth: “The warehouse’s proximity to our terminals will help customers reach regional and international markets with greater speed and certainty.”
By combining freight forwarding, port operations, and now contract logistics in Türkiye, DP World is positioning itself as a primary architect of more resilient and cost-effective supply chains linking Europe to Asia.
