DP World, in partnership with Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI), has deployed the Philippines’ first fleet of electric internal transfer vehicles (eITVs) at Manila South Harbour as part of a broader commitment to sustainable port operations. The new fleet, consisting of 15 eITVs and supported by dedicated rapid-charging infrastructure, represents around 20% of the terminal’s current ITV fleet. It marks a significant step towards the goal of full decarbonisation by 2030.
The US$2.1 million investment forms part of the US$100 million enhancement package announced earlier this year to increase efficiency at Manila South Harbour. The eITVs will be used for container transfer between vessel and yard, improving operational turnaround times while reducing emissions. Further electrification plans are already in progress, including equipment such as gantry cranes, side loaders, and reach stackers.
This initiative supports DP World’s global target of a 42% emissions reduction by 2030 and net-zero operations by 2050. It also aligns with the Philippine Ports Authority’s push for cleaner, smarter trade gateways. Manufactured by Sany, the eITVs are equipped with high-capacity batteries and advanced safety systems. The units underwent a full year of technical evaluation before deployment to ensure optimal performance under local conditions.

DP World’s sustainability investments in Manila also include 11 fully electric ship-to-shore cranes, with the port’s power supply already sourced 95% from renewables and aiming for 100% coverage in the near future.
