COSCO SHIPPING has successfully completed the high-profile logistics mission of delivering core exhibits and supporting materials for the China Pavilion at the upcoming Osaka World Expo 2025, deploying a highly customized multimodal solution that combined ocean, air, and digital logistics services to ensure the safe and timely delivery of sensitive and oversized cargo.
The project involved the transportation of a range of culturally and technologically significant exhibits, including replicas of national treasures such as the Sanxingdui Bronze Sacred Tree and the Shang Dynasty Simuwu Cauldron, as well as advanced displays like a smart city sand table and AI-powered machines. COSCO SHIPPING executed the complex operation under the leadership of its specialized exhibition logistics arm, COSCO SHIPPING Exhibition, part of COSCO SHIPPING Logistics & Supply Chain Management.
Multimodal Transport Strategy with Digital Integration
To meet the demanding transport requirements, COSCO SHIPPING deployed a fully integrated “shipping+air+digital” strategy. Seven ocean containers across four shipments were supplemented by 23 cubic meters of airfreight for time-sensitive and oversized items. Temperature- and humidity-controlled containers were utilized to safeguard delicate artifacts, while three-dimensional cargo securing systems protected items during transit.
A modular container loading approach was employed for nearly 10,000 smaller exhibition items — including volunteer uniforms, navigation equipment, and other supporting materials — improving space utilization by 27%. The full shipment was supported by real-time GPS tracking, customized packaging, and on-site support both in China and Japan. Upon arrival at Osaka, COSCO SHIPPING Logistics Japan facilitated seamless customs clearance and last-mile delivery to the Expo Park.
Expedited Delivery for Oversized Cargo
Among the most complex shipments were the oversized lunar soil exhibit and Jiaolong submersible experience module, which required specialized airworthiness assessments and expedited clearance processes. Operating under tight Expo deadlines and overlapping service demands in Shanghai, COSCO SHIPPING activated an emergency response protocol, completing formalities for these shipments in just 72 hours. The company achieved full door-to-door delivery within seven days, cutting standard transit times by 60%, highlighting its rapid-response capability in large-scale event logistics.
Digital Platform Streamlines Expo Logistics Management
As part of its evolving digital logistics offering, COSCO SHIPPING Exhibition has further enhanced its “One-Stop Exhibition” WeChat mini-program, providing Expo participants with a centralized portal for order placement, real-time shipment tracking, transportation updates, and payment management. The platform supports COSCO SHIPPING’s broader effort to simplify complex exhibition logistics through digitalization and end-to-end visibility.
Comprehensive Expo Support Ahead of Global Showcase
With the Osaka World Expo 2025 set to open from April 13 to October 13, COSCO SHIPPING is preparing for the next phase of its Expo logistics program, which will include transportation support for various Chinese provinces, cities, and corporate participants. Leveraging COSCO SHIPPING’s global network, the company will provide full-scope logistics services for theme week activities, corporate exhibits, and promotional displays, ensuring China’s advanced manufacturing, cultural exhibits, and sustainability technologies are prominently featured on the international stage.
Spanning 3,500 square meters, the China Pavilion will be one of the largest national pavilions at the Expo. Under the theme “Building a Community of Life For Man And Nature — Future Society of Green Development,” the pavilion will present China’s ecological philosophy and development achievements while offering a forward-looking vision of global cooperation for sustainable development.
