CMA CGM Ocean Rise Express Direct Japan–North Europe Connectivity

CMA CGM has announced the launch of the Ocean Rise Express (OCR), a new premium weekly service designed to provide a direct maritime link between Japan, South China, and the major gateways of North Europe. This strategic expansion aims to offer the market’s best transit times and enhanced schedule reliability on the critical East-West trade axis.

The inaugural sailing is scheduled to depart from Kobe on 2 April 2026, marking a significant reinforcement of CMA CGM’s independent network capabilities.

Direct Japan-to-Europe Corridor

The OCR service is specifically engineered to bypass traditional transshipment hurdles, offering Shippers in Japan and South China a streamlined route to the European consumer market. CMA CGM will deploy a dedicated fleet of fourteen vessels (ranging from 7,000 to 10,000 TEUs), including high-efficiency LNG-powered containerships.

Key Transit Times:

  • From Yokohama: Rotterdam in 38 days, Hamburg in 41 days, and Southampton in 45 days.
  • From Yantian: Rotterdam in 32 days, Hamburg in 35 days, and Southampton in 38 days.

The OCR Rotation:

Kobe – Nagoya – Yokohama – Xiamen – Yantian – Rotterdam – Hamburg – Southampton – Nansha – Kobe

By operating this service entirely within its own fleet, CMA CGM ensures greater control over schedule integrity, providing a resilient end-to-end solution at a time when global supply chain predictability is paramount.

Strengthening the “Time-to-Market”

The launch of the OCR service is a direct response to the growing demand for faster cargo delivery from high-tech manufacturing hubs in Japan and South China. Bo Wegener, CEO of CMA CGM Asia Pacific, noted: “The launch of Ocean Rise Express highlights the strategic importance of Asia-Europe trade… further strengthening our position as a trusted partner in global trade.”

Strategic Advantages:

  • Direct Calls: Eliminating the need for feeder connections in Southeast Asia for Japanese exports.
  • Sustainability: The inclusion of 8,000 TEU LNG-powered vessels helps shippers reduce the carbon footprint of their Scope 3 emissions.
  • Resilience: The service structure is designed to offer a “buffer” against regional port congestion, ensuring more reliable weekly windows for European arrivals.

2026 Asia-Europe Strategy

The OCR service joins a suite of recent network upgrades by CMA CGM as it continues to decouple from traditional alliance structures in favor of standalone, high-performance loops. This move allows the carrier to tailor its berthing windows more precisely to the needs of its retail and automotive customers in North Europe.
