CMA CGM Group 20% Stake EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg

The CMA CGM Group, a global leader in sea, land, air, and logistics solutions, has signed a term sheet to acquire a 20% stake in EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH). Subject to regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.

CMA CGM already calls at CTH through its FAL service, which connects Asia and Northern Europe with 23,000 TEU LNG-powered vessels. The new investment aligns with CMA CGM’s broader strategy to expand its terminal infrastructure and strengthen its European footprint. The Group operates in 64 terminals globally and views Hamburg as a key maritime hub in Northern Europe.

The transaction will support CMA CGM’s efforts to enhance the performance of its maritime and logistics services while contributing to resilient and low-emission supply chains. CTH offers direct rail access to EUROKOMBI, Germany’s largest intermodal terminal, providing strong inland connectivity.

As part of the partnership, CMA CGM will support EUROGATE’s Western Extension project, which will add approximately 38 hectares to the terminal and 1,050 metres of new quay wall. This will increase the terminal’s capacity from around 4 million TEUs to nearly 6 million TEUs, improve operational efficiency, and accommodate next-generation container vessels. By becoming a shareholder, CMA CGM contributes to the long-term development of the terminal and reinforces Hamburg’s role as a gateway for North European trade.

Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of the CMA CGM Group, said:
“This partnership with EUROGATE marks a key step in supporting the long-term growth of Hamburg Port. Our participation will help expand terminal capacity, improve rail connections, and encourage sustainable operations. It reflects our confidence in Germany’s economic role and our commitment to strengthening European supply chains.”

CMA CGM has been active in Germany since 1991, with offices in Hamburg and Bremen. Today, it operates nine offices across five countries within its regional cluster, covering Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The Group makes 23 weekly vessel calls at Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven.

Through CEVA Logistics, CMA CGM Inland Services, and the Duisburg Trimodal Terminal (D3T), the Group also offers integrated logistics and intermodal solutions. CEVA alone manages more than 500,000 square metres of warehousing and employs 5,200 people in Germany. The Group remains committed to supporting Germany’s role in global trade and advancing the decarbonisation and efficiency of supply chains.
