Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) welcomed executives from the Port Authority of Thailand at the Terminal D Visitor Centre for a strategic discussion on port management, operational efficiency and long-term competitiveness at Laem Chabang Port.

The visit, led by Mr. Anat Machima, Chief Operating Officer of Hutchison Ports Thailand, brought together port authorities, private sector stakeholders and relevant agencies to exchange perspectives on key industry challenges and evolving market dynamics.

Addressing Competitive Pressures and Cost Structures

During the discussions, participants highlighted increasing competition from ports outside the Laem Chabang area, a trend expected to intensify as regional maritime trade continues to expand. In response, strategies were proposed to enhance competitiveness through cost optimisation, improved service delivery and faster operational turnaround.

The port tariff structure was also reviewed, with stakeholders suggesting adjustments to better reflect current economic conditions. The proposed approach aims to balance fairness for both service users and operators while maintaining the port’s long-term competitiveness.

Enhancing Infrastructure and Operational Performance

Navigation channel depth was identified as a critical factor in ensuring safety and accommodating larger vessels, while traffic management within the port was discussed as a key lever to reduce congestion and improve cargo flow efficiency.

Infrastructure maintenance was also addressed, with a focus on ensuring the continuous availability and reliability of port facilities. In addition, discussions covered terminal contract management strategies to maximise operational efficiency while aligning with future development plans.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by the Port Authority of Thailand and industry stakeholders to elevate port management standards and support the sustainable growth of Thailand’s logistics and maritime sectors.
