French ocean carrier CMA CGM has expanded its sustainable maritime logistics portfolio through a commercial partnership with NEOLINE, offering shippers access to wind-powered transatlantic cargo capacity aboard the newly deployed vessel NEOLINER ORIGIN.
The service establishes a lower-carbon ocean link connecting major industrial regions across North Europe and North America.
Vessel Specifications and Decarbonization Metrics
The NEOLINER ORIGIN is a 136-meter specialized roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel designed to leverage primary wind propulsion on long-haul Atlantic crossings:
- Propulsion Technology: Equipped with two foldable SolidSail rigid masts featuring 3,000 square meters of total sail area, supported by an auxiliary diesel-electric engine system.
- Emissions Reductions: Cuts ocean-crossing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 80% to 90% compared to conventional motor-driven vessels operating at standard speeds.
- Operational Flexibility: Designed to accommodate versatile cargo profiles, including dry containers, rolling stock, refrigerated units, and heavy out-of-gauge (OOG) freight.
Service Rotation and Commercial Availability
The transatlantic service marked its inaugural Belgian port call at PSA Zeebrugge on September 21, 2026:
- Port Rotation: Zeebrugge (Belgium) – Montoir-de-Bretagne (France) – Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon – Baltimore (USA) – Halifax (Canada).
- Commercial Integration: CMA CGM customers can book space on the wind-powered sailings directly via CMA CGM’s digital booking platforms.
