CEVA Logistics E-Commerce Distribution Center Derby

Global third-party logistics provider CEVA Logistics has announced the opening of a massive, build-for-purpose fulfillment facility in Derby, UK. The facility is engineered to act as a high-volume distribution node for prominent global e-commerce and retail brands, facilitating the rapid storage, sorting, and multi-channel fulfillment of fast-moving consumer inventories across the United Kingdom.

The site is scheduled to commence active operations in August 2026, creating approximately 300 new logistics and warehouse management jobs within the East Midlands regional economy.

Scalable Architecture and Eco-Efficient Infrastructure

The new 508,000-square-foot facility incorporates high-density inventory storage layouts optimized for rapid item picking. The interior layout features more than 147,000 dynamic pick faces alongside variable storage locations, giving e-commerce brands a highly scalable fulfillment framework. To accommodate sudden seasonal volume surges, the warehouse design allows for the conversion of standard block-stack floor space into high-bay racking systems without interrupting active picking loops.

The facility has been engineered to meet stringent environmental sustainability criteria, securing top-tier performance ratings:

  • BREEAM Excellent Rating: Certifying high environmental performance across energy efficiency, water management, and sustainable building materials.
  • EPC A+ Certification: Reflecting the facility’s status as a highly energy-efficient building with a near-zero carbon operational footprint.
  • Rooftop Solar Array: Utilizing an extensive solar panel installation to generate on-site renewable energy, lowering grid dependency and operational emissions.

Compressed Operational Mobilization Timeline

A defining characteristic of the Derby project was its rapid implementation schedule. CEVA’s engineering, solution design, legal, and operational management teams executed the comprehensive site fit-out, technology integration, and labor sourcing within a tight 20-week window from the initial contract award to operational readiness.

This fast-track deployment allows the anchor e-commerce tenants to position peak-season inventory ahead of late-summer retail surges, avoiding the disruptions often associated with warehouse transitions.

Strengthening the UK Fulfillment Footprint

The addition of the Derby center expands CEVA’s contract logistics network in the UK, anchoring its position along major inland transport corridors to enable late-cutoff collection windows for next-day domestic deliveries.

Mike Weaver, Managing Director of Contract Logistics UKIN at CEVA Logistics, stated that the new operation highlights the company’s capability to deliver large-scale, high-performance logistics solutions at speed. He emphasized that the Derby facility effectively combines operational scale, environmental sustainability, and layout flexibility to address the shifting demands of the modern e-commerce market, while reinforcing CEVA’s specialized expertise in retail supply chain execution.
