On July 1st, 2022, Bangkok Terminal Logistics Company Limited (BTL), a Leading Thai Logistics provider specializing in road and rail transportation, took part in the opening ceremony of Thanaleng Dry Port Rail-Rail Transshipment Yard with their first cargo train participated in the transhipment of containers between China-Laos railway and Thai-Laos railway.

At Thanaleng Dry Port in Vientiane, Laos, the ceremony was graced by the attendance of the Laotian Deputy Prime Minister, other selected government officials, and business representatives from China, Lao PDR., and Thailand.

Laos – China Railway Company Limited has recently extended rail tracks from Vientiane South railways station to Thanaleng Dry Port to connect with the Thai-Laos railway. The Rail-Rail Transhipment Yard in Thanaleng Dry Port is a conjunction between Thailand’s Meter gauge railway (1.0-meter rail track width) and Laos’ standard 1.435-meter track gauge, where containers from both sides will be swapped and continue their journey to the final destinations. The yard operation is the last piece of the puzzle to unlock the blockage between China and Thailand on the China-Laos railway to improve transportation efficiency on the Belt and Road initiative.
